Number one: Ram in the Bush Musician

So, first I wanna start by saying hey y’all it’s been a minute. I know I restarted this blog and still can’t keep up-to-date with the posts. But, I recently decided to start a new section on my blog called Tales of a Solo Church Musician. This beautiful burst of inspiration came while I was taking a shower and thinking to myself man it’s been a minute since I posted on the blog. What is something that I could post on my blog? What is something that is not only meaningful but I also have a lot to say about and then he came to me. I am a solo church musician. And I’ve got stories to tell.

So let’s get into it!

Tale 1: A Ram in the Bush Musician

Patrick for the win!

Y’all remember that story with Abraham and his son Isaac how Abraham had to go and prepare for the sacrifice? All of a sudden things take a little turn in that story at least for Isaac it does. Isaac now starts to see that number one we done walked up this hill number two I don’t see that thing we gonna sacrifice number three My dad just said that the Lord will provide even though he already knew that he was supposed to go up that mountain and sacrifice me apparently. Anyway, long story short just asked Abraham is getting ready to sacrifice his son. He gets stopped by the Angel of the Lord, and all of a sudden, now there is a ram in the bush.

So you may be thinking what’s all that got to do with ram in the bush musician? Well, I’ll tell you. It’s when you don’t initially have what you need, but God makes a way and there’s a ram hiding in that bush.

I go to a small church, which I love. Anybody who’s ever been a part of a small church or knows about a small church knows that one of the hardest things to find are good church musicians. And when I say church musicians, I do mean church musicians not just musicians popping up off the street.

So at my small church years ago, we found ourselves in a situation where we had someone to play the organ and the keyboard, but we did not have some one to play the drums who was consistent.

Now, I’m talking about me all the way back when I was in high school y’all and let me tell you that was certainly over a decade and some more. I decided to take this elective that would teach me a little bit about the drums. The basics of the drums. Little did I know how much that would end up coming in handy for not only myself but also my church.

It started out as a “well you know I’ll just try to help out a little bit. You know I don’t know too much so you know please don’t depend on me for too much.” I could play a basic beat. Get a good tempo and as it turns out, that was all we pretty much needed at the time. Now, all this time the longer I played, the more I was able to do, while I played on the drums. I’m completely self/Jesus-taught even to this day so I’m not about to pretend like I’m the greatest drummer in the world.

I initially thought “yeah that’s only for a little while. It won’t be long. I won’t be up here too long playing these drums. Somebody else will come along that we need and they’ll be playing these drums and they’ll actually know what they’re doing and they’ll know the tricks, they’ll know everything.”

Saying all that to say this, a decade later, and I’m still on the drums y’all LOL. (Over the years we had musicians come and go). I’m still that ram in the bush. That ram in the bush musician.

Now I wanna make this clear. I am in no way complaining about doing things for the house of God. So that is not what this blog post is about. I am glad to be able to help my church out. This blog post is pretty much about bringing awareness to all the ram in the bush musicians that are out here in this world. Trying to do the same thing: help the house of God and possibly waiting on another musician to come through.

Patrick and the drums!

Yeah, this blog post is for all of my ram in the bush musicians at all these small churches, playing the organ, playing the keyboard, playing the drums, playing the saxophone, the trumpet, whatever your instrument is, do your thing to the glory of God cause I can promise you He sees us.

Anyway, that’s all from me!

Until next time,

Be responsibly irresponsible!
